Dread Nation

Civil War zombies? Yep. I wasn't expecting to enjoy this alternative history/zombie book so much. I flew through it. Here's the gist: A virus of unknown origin started turning people into zombies, or as they are known in Jane’s world, shamblers, Anyone who gets bit becomes a shambler. While this phenom has basically replaced the Civil War, slavery and racism are still a fact of life in the south but instead of picking cotton, slaves are schooled to fight the shamblers. A bit like Pride and Prejudice zombies (obviously) but it was the fact that I really liked Jane and wanted to know what would happen to her that kept me turning pages.
