Elephant Rescue: A True-Life Story (Born Free...Books)

I'm reading a bunch of animal books in preparation for my Summer at the Zoo unit study. This one is new, and that peaked my interest. There is an entire series of these Born Free books, and if the rest are like this one, they'll be worth tracking down. There are simply gorgeous photos and super interesting sidebars filled with just info information that it doesn't end up feeling like you are reading an encyclopedia out loud. There are two real life stories included in this, and you can tell that the Born Free Foundation has some great people working for them. The attention to detail in introducing these elephants back into the wild is phenomenal. The stories are elementary to a middle-grade level, and I think kids will enjoy reading more about elephants and think more about the conditions of the habitat while visiting elephants at the zoo after reading this.

I'm a lifelong bibliophile who happens to love children's books and who should have become a librarian. Instead I horde books in case of apocalypse or the enactment of a Fahrenheit 451 type law. My five kids accept my addiction and have learned to accept books in odd places.
